for the peace from above

He is our bread – because from the very beginning all our hunger was a hunger for Him and all our bread was but a symbol of Him , a symbol that had to become reality.
Father Akexabder Schmemman :: For the Life of the World

Ὑπὲρ τῆς ἄνωθεν εἰρήνης καὶ τῆς σωτηρίας τῶν ψυχῶν ἡμῶν τοῦ Κυρίου δεηθῶμεν.

For the peace from above and for the salvation of our souls, let us pray to the Lord.

Great Litany :: Divine Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom

For the peace from above… we pray this in every Divine Liturgy… and this peace is not an earthly peace but rather is a peace even in the midst of chaos… Peace leading souls to still waters :: on the path of righteousness for His names sake (Psalm 23) . Soul redeeming restorative peace… a peace which surpasses all understanding :: peace of goodness and mercy unto salvation.

Heavenly peace :: and tranquility of soul.

εἰρήνης :: Peace

This is harmony.

The Litanies of the Liturgy of Life :: these are a compass to Salvation – that we will dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of our lives.

what we did for Him

We are all going to leave this world – young and old, rich and poor, the king and the soldier. Regardless of the manner in w which one looks after his house, or his monastery, regardless of how brilliantly he polishes it, he will still depart this life. Our Christ will ask from us what we did for Him and how we labored for Him. These are questions God will ask of us. This is why we need to struggle spiritually.

the beauty of change

It happens without fail every year.  I think I only notice it for having lived in this area my whole life.  This past week, the faintest scent of the coming Fall has hung in the early morning dewy air.   You only smell it in the morning.   I don’t know why.

A few weeks ago, a little golden angel leaf is the first fallen leaf on the deck.  None of the other leaves have changed color… yet.

When I was a young girl, that faint aroma of moldering leaves always reminded me of the beginning of school, but now it brings the recollection of the approaching end and beginning of the Liturgical Calendar just beyond the Dormition of the Theotokos.

Another years journey through complete cycle of Christ’s birth to His glorification.. the mystery of Christ and the salvation of mankind.   A new school year approaches… in the school of repentance.
